Our intake staff refer thousands of clients to Civil Justice network attorneys each year. Callers are first screened for eligibility for free legal services, and then referred to our members if no free legal services are available. Civil Justice staff confirm with each caller that they understand our member attorneys charge for representation.   Fees for legal assistance are negotiated between the client and the Civil Justice network attorney. When a network attorney represents a financially-limited client referred by Civil Justice, the attorney commits to provide a discount to their normal rate if possible. Unlike many county bar association lawyer referral services, Civil Justice does not charge the clients for the referral and does not take a percentage of any fees generated by the referral.

Through Civil Justice’s listserv, attorneys have the opportunity to ask questions and share resources with network members.

Civil Justice offers a library of free, on-demand training videos. Trainings on areas such as Maryland family law, fee-shifting claims, representation of tenants, and foreclosure prevention are avaialble to network attorneys.

Additional benefits include access to informal mentoring by experienced network attorneys and help identifying appropriate co-counsel for complex cases.
